The following is one of the most important aspects in everybody’s life, everybody being the salesman that appears every now and then at your door, the lady that has been attending the corner store for 10 years, every cab driver you have met for the last 20 years, the priest that is in your worshiping center and even you and me. Can you imagine what do all these people have in common? Well, is actually too easy. We are all human, and it represents. I was going to talk about this one aspect, the one that makes us unhappy, the one that invite us to go for another shot, the one that keep us from success, and finally the one that temp us to love. It is our sense of self destruction.
It can be disguised in many ways, as the feeling of a worthless life knocking door by door and people shooting it at your face, as the feeling of resignation knowing that you life will come to an end at your own convenience store, as the sensation that every people you met today will not remember you tomorrow, and as the awareness that what you do for a living is against all nature by repressing the most basic instinct of the human form. But what is this? And where does it come from? The first one is pretty easy, and all you have to do is think about this. How many times have you encountered a situation in which you debate with yourself what to do or how to react? I think there are a few tons of them. Well, congratulations! Now you know the beginning of this sixth sense of the human body. In all those circumstances you have thought about doing the right or wrong thing, but actually, what you have been thinking of all your life is about what everybody considers as right and wrong, and at last what you think of right and wrong. Maybe you notice a 100 dollar bill slipped of a man’s pocket. The next thing you do is to think about returning it or not. If you decide to return it, well, you have fallen in this self destruct scheme because you could have use it to satisfy your own personal needs because of the situation you are in. Maybe you decided to keep it. Guess what. It is the same thing; you have fallen equally to the self destruction design because the society will see you as a thief or worse. But then, if the two choices end up at the same point, is there any way to avoid it? The answer is no. You see, the problem here is not the two decisions you debate with, neither the one you chose; the real dilemma is the decision itself. The simple thought of those two actions is the real trouble, just because at the same instant you decide to do something, unconsciously, you have decided to not to do something. If you decide to follow society, you leave yourself behind (your ideas, your needs, your feelings) because those can be against what you have decided to follow, and it is the same in the other scenario; if you surrender to your needs, feelings, and ideals, you take on the whole society against you, and whether you see it or not, in both cases you are giving up something, and that is what causes your own self destruction.
Notice that every choice in life is the same thing; you do something while you do not do something. The only way to evade this is simply by not thinking. If you take decisions without thinking, without evaluating consequences, and only judging by your own gain, congratulations! You are one in 7 billion! But needless to say, it’s not possible because our own nature. The human being is what it is because of our thinking, and giving up this quality can be considered the same as to stop breathing.
There is no way to avoid this. The sole thing to do is to give up the least things possible. Just try to discover what you are here for, or what is what makes you wake up in the morning, let it be money, a certain someone, a dream to fight for, or just hope. The only thing you can do is not to give up your own motivation, because then you would have lost everything, you would have pressed that red button of self destruction and there will be no way back.
To choose is to resign...
